• Into the Woods - Milky White's body was fashioned from a spiralised card tube, with coat hanger ribs and comedy rubber glove udders. The puppeteers opted to keep her head separate from her body - this allowed easier control and allowed for some comedy choreography too.

Into the Woods

Theatre design

Set and puppetry for Glasgow Music Theatre's production of Into the Woods. As the show revolves around fairy tales, the design brief was for the set to look as if it was from of books. The various set pieces (and Milky White the Cow) were constructed from found materials like paper, card, coat hangers, garden canes, and chicken wire. They were then covered with pages from unwanted books before hand-painted details were added. The set pieces were mounted over existing wooden structures. Milky White, Jack's beloved cow, still lives in my house to this day (or her head does, at least).
