Designing for the Commonwealth Games has to be one of the best jobs I ever had. While my work wasn't necessarily public-facing, it was crucial to Games operations. In ten months I created over 460 individual items including handbooks for athletes and officials, sport scoring and reporting forms, course maps, venue passes and even ceremonial invitations for the Royal Family. My biggest challenge was definitely recreating the artwork for all 72 competing nations' flags to create high resolution, fully scalable artwork needed for the flag manual, ceremonial flags and broadcast graphics. My favourite project was designing the finalists' certificate awarded to every medallist – I take great pleasure in knowing Usain Bolt may have a piece of my work on his wall. Also featured below is the Athletics handbook with pull-out map of the marathon route, which happened to go right past my house!
